The inspiration for the drawing of this lovely girl - wahine, in Hawaiian - was a photograph of the daughter of one of Hawaii's most beloved artists. She had the perfect embodiment of the Hawaiian face - broad, structural face, wide-eyed, full nose and lips, wavy thick hair - she was stunning, and I couldn't resist. To honor her dad, though, I made it just enough different from the girl herself so as not to impinge upon their privacy.

Wahine O Ke Kai means girl of the seas, or, if you'd like to wax poetic, Sea Goddess!
