Each time hula dancers perform, they have to go out and find and harvest just the right leaves to make their hula attire from. I had this plant right at the front of my yard, so dancers would ask me if they could have some of its beautiful leaves. So every year, I would have the honor of donating some of its leaves to the dancers in the Merrie Monarch competition.
